Don’t Bake In The Sun: Get A Modern Glow With An Airbrush Tan

May is Melanoma Awareness month! And even though May is coming to an end we still need to be aware of the dangers of melanoma. What is the leading cause of melanoma? UV radiation from the sun and tanning beds! Not good news for those of us who like to get a little (or a lot) of color when the temperatures rise and you’ll be showing more skin. While melanoma typically strikes those of us with light-colored skin and light-colored eyes more often, melanoma does not discriminate! Yes, even those of you with darker skin and eyes can get melanoma, though it is not as common. What’s a girl (or guy) to do?! When summer rolls around and the sun comes out, many people crave a golden glow. Nobody wants to sport shorts and sundresses with white legs! Heck, even in the winter months I like some color! Who doesn’t look better with a tan?! Bronzed, radiant skin can increase your confidence, make you look slimmer, and may prompt your friends to ask with envy, “Did you …

Coming To Terms With My Aging Skin

Ugh… This is a tough one to write about, but it has been haunting me and I thought I should share in case anyone else out there is feeling the same way as I am. Kind of a “misery loves company” kind of thing. It isn’t easy to share your insecurities with others or draw attention to your “flaws”. I was wondering if it was just best to keep this to myself. But then I thought, maybe, just maybe, this post would reach somebody out there and let them know that they are not alone. Or maybe, just maybe, someone out there would let me know that I am not alone! So, here goes… I am 46 years old. I eat pretty good (I’m not a fan of sweets, I abstain from gluten products, and I incorporate a lot of fruits and veggies on a daily basis) I drink a lot of water, and I work out several times or more a week and am fairly toned. Up until now I felt pretty good about …

Hair Loss in Women: Please Tell Me That I Am Not Alone!

Many people—and women especially—take great pride in their hair. It makes sense, as your crowning glory is just as front and center, just as visible to the rest of the world, as your face. Losing some hair every day is completely normal. It’s a sign your body’s growing new, healthy ones to replace the old. In fact, losing 50 to 100 hairs per day is normal.  You can also kind of get an idea of what’s normal for you by just paying attention to what you typically see on your brush or in the shower drain. So…. lately my hair has been falling out. Like lots of hair! In the shower, on my brush, or even when just walking around the house. Oh hello there 8 random strands of hair on my shirt. Thanks for letting go! Not!! Oh, and there is breakage too!! What the!! I’m getting side-swept bangs without even trying! I am wondering if it is because I go to the gym about 4 days out of 7 and put my hair in …

A Healthy Alternative: 10 Natural Oils With Natural SPF

The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising and the number of sun hours is increasing steadily. Yes, summer is quickly approaching and in many places, like here in Texas, it already is feeling like summer. I know around my house my family and I are already spending more time out by the pool and soaking up the sun. Even though I try to be careful about sun exposure I still like to get some “natural color” when summer rolls around! And, I do use some self tanning products to help with that. Now, I still want to make sure that my kid’s “young skin” is protected and they don’t get sunburned. Unlike when I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s! We spent hours in the sun with very little protection and I endured many a sunburn. As a teen we’d even put baby oil on to get a tan! Bad idea! I’d probably have a few less wrinkles now had I been more cautious then. In any case… The Sun is …

Favorite Things: Body Nutritive Serum and Tan Towels Self Tanner

Hi friends! How was your weekend? Is it a beautiful day where you are? It is here in Houston. My pool is calling my name. It looks so inviting, but unfortunately the water temp is still just a little too cool for my liking. These cool nights and mornings really cooled the water down. Though my kiddos did get in and swim yesterday afternoon. I’m pretty sure it won’t be long now before the water’s warm enough for me to put on my swimsuit and jump in and join them! Of course I am a little less than tan right now, though I do occasionally treat myself to organic spray tans from Spre Airbrushed Tanning here in Houston. While I like to practice safe sun exposure by using sunscreen I still like to get a little color! I don’t want to blind people with my “whiteness” and a tan always makes you look a little thinner. Who wouldn’t want that?! Which brings me to the first of “My Favorite Things” today. Just Natural’s Body Nutritive Serum …

Favorite Things: NARS Concealer and Skin Drink FaceTime Primer

Hi friends! Happy Friday! We made it to another weekend! And its a gorgeous day here in Houston! Welcome to my first post called “Favorite Things”! For some time now I have wanted to start posting about some of my favorite things. I always love hearing about great products that other people like and would recommend. Don’t you? I hope to update you with my Favorite Things on a weekly basis so check in often! First up is the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($30). It was recommend to me by one of the associates at Sephora when I went in for my usual Stila concealer but they didn’t carry it anymore. Don’t you hate when that happens? I desperately needed concealer so I went with their recommendation that day. I’m so glad I did. I love this stuff! Even better than my Stila. It goes on so smooth with just the right amount of coverage! Why didn’t I know about this sooner! “Coveted by artists for its luxurious texture and luminous finish, new Radiant Creamy Concealer evens …

Himalayan Salt Lamps: Beneficial or Not?

I’ve often seen Himalayan Salt Lamps in spas and I have always thought they were pretty. But, I really wasn’t sure what they were for… They certainly are nice to look at and emit such a warm, soothing glow. Then I discovered that they actually do serve a purpose beyond looks. They are actually supposed to be good for your health! And, while I am by no means do everything right 🙂 I am always on the look out for things I can do to improve my health and environment! So, for a while I have been meaning to buy a salt lamp, but just hadn’t gotten around to it yet. Much to my surprise my friend Courtney gifted me with one for my birthday in December! Had she been reading my mind?!? Are there any health benefits to having a Himalayan Salt Lamp in your home?  Many people believe so, but of course there are always naysayers. First, a little info on how the Himalayan Salt Lamps works: Water vapor is always circulating in …
