Luck Of The Irish: Going Green in Interior Design

Is green really the color of luck? ” In the Middle Ages, it was believed that green was the color of fairies and other “little people” who didn’t like the idea of sharing it with mere mortals. In Ireland, leprechauns notwithstanding, green is considered the luckiest of colors. It is also a lucky color for those born under the signs of Aquarius and Capricorn. Green signifies a positive change, good health, growth, healing, hope, vigor, vitality, peace, and serenity. Green is also symbolic of ones strive to gain recognition and establish ones independence. Money, wealth and jealousy are often associated with this color. Light green symbolizes brilliance.” St. Patrick’s Day 2018 occurs on Saturday, March 17, in observance of the death of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. What began as a religious feast day in the 17th century has evolved into a variety of festivals across the globe celebrating Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and a whole lot of green! Since I love interior design, in honor of St. Patrick’s …

Sunday Post: 5 Finds From Around The Internet

Happy Sunday everybody! Hope you enjoy this week’s finds from around the Internet! Is your olive oil the real deal? I just love a good olive oil! And it so good for you with health benefits like protecting against strokes and heart disease, providing large amounts of antioxidants, and possibly protecting you from Alzheimers, just to name a few. However, there are many “fake” olive oils being sold! Possibly over 60% of olive oils on the market are in fact not pure olive oil! Check out this article  at Mind Body Green that explains a 3-second trick to finding out if your favorite olive oil is indeed real. A few weeks ago my stomach got really bloated and uncomfortable and it lasted for several days. It was really annoying, to say the least. I couldn’t contribute it to one particular thing so I do as I often do – I searched the Internet. I am pretty sure I found the culprit. Garlic!! I had been consuming a lot of roasted garlic trying to beef up …

11 Ways To Comfort Someone During A Difficult Time

Recently I have had 2 different people in my life going through very trying times as their spouses have had to deal with health problems. One is a family member and the other a mom friend from my kid’s school. Obviously, my relationship to each of them is completely different. Nonetheless, I want to reach out and comfort both of them in some way. It got me to thinking about just how do you comfort someone going through a tough time? Despite best intentions, it isn’t always easy to comfort someone. And for some of us, supporting people going through a difficult time can be confusing or awkward, no matter how much we want to be present for them. Below are some suggestions that might be helpful. Not all of these will apply to every situation, so use them only if they feel appropriate. And, I believe there will be some differences as well as similarities based on the level of your relationship with the person going through a crisis, but mostly similarities. (1) Make contact. …

Sunday Post: 4 Finds From Around The Internet This Week

Hi friends! Welcome to another addition of The Sunday Post! How’s the weather where you are? It’s been a roller coaster of temperatures here in Houston, and quite a bit of rain. Yesterday was  in the low 70’s and now today the temps will be in the 40’s all day long with clouds. Later this week they say we will be approaching 80! The frequent changes in weather doesnt’t seem to bode well for our immune systems. Maybe it’s just an old wive’s tale, but it seems that the continually changing weather just keeps the flu roaming around. Which brings me to my first “find” this week. Getting the flu sucks! And sometimes there is just no way around not getting it. Especially when you live with multiple people in your house. The chances go up! But there are some natural  things that you can do to lessen your chances of going down and out. Check out 12 Natural Flu Remedies over at Dr. Axe. Oh L’amor! Valentine’s Day is almost here. Gift Ideas For Your Galentine!

Yes, it’s actually Valentine’s Day! But that doesn’t mean we can’t show a little love to the “girlfriends” in our lives – our Galentines! Besides, our girlfriends mean a lot to us! Do they not? In my 40’s I find that my girlfriends mean even more to me now than they did in my 30’s. I guess because in my 30’s I was birthing little people and caught up in diapers and bottles! In my 20’s of course my girlfriends meant a lot, but in a different way…The kind of “thanks for getting me away from that creepy guy at the club and driving my ass home” kind of way 🙄 Don’t get me wrong, some of these gals are still some of my closest friends and always will be! I’m pretty sure that as the years pass from here on out my girlfriends will continue to hold a very special and important place in my life. After all, our kiddos are getting older, wrinkles are starting to appear, and the dreaded menopause is looming …

A Lost Art: What Does Your Handwriting Say About You

Hi friends! Did you know that Tuesday, January 23rd is National Handwriting Day? Well, it is. What does that mean? Not much really or, maybe more than you realize! Nonetheless, seeing that the day was coming up it got me to thinking about how the way you write can be an indicator of your personality. Per the “experts” in the field of graphology anyway… But, it also got me to wondering how much people actually take pen (or pencil) to paper amymore. I wonder that as I type this post out on the keyboard of my iPad Pro 🤔 And I can use funny emojis to express feelings 😊 I for one, do still write on paper every single day! I actually keep a written calendar that lists each days activities and things I need to do. Even though I may still log it in my iPhone’s calendar as well (I do like the alarm reminders). Before I go to the grocery store I always make a handwritten list so that I hopefully don’t forget something. And, there’s journal …
