7 Margarita Recipes To Try For Cinco De Mayo!

Holy guacamole!  Cinco de Mayo is just a week away!  And, it’s on a Friday this year! What better way to celebrate than with a deliscious margarita! I’ve rounded up some fresh margarita recipes on the blog today for your upcoming fiesta celebrations! This weekend is the perfect time to mix some up at home and see which ones you think are muy bien! And, don’t forget the chips and guacamole! But first, here are some Cinco de Mayo factos: In case your Spanish is *muy rusty*. Cinco de Mayo is Spanish for the fifth of May. The holiday celebrates an unexpected victory. The holiday actually celebrates the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The Mexican army won the battle despite being smaller and ill-equipped. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day. That occurred 50 years prior to the Battle of Puebla. It is celebrated on September 16. Cinco de Mayo is a bigger deal in the United States. In Mexico, the day is observed with political speeches and battle …

Around Town: Brasserie du Parc

Lunch with a great friend is always a good idea. Lunch with a great friend at a great restaurant is even better! A few weeks ago my friend Bridgette and I had the pleasure of dining at the recently opened Brasserie du Parc in downtown Houston. We try to get together for lunch and catch up at least every other week. And we always make a point to go to a restaurant that neither of us has tried yet. It’s easy to have somewhere different to go each time as Houston is booming with new restaurants. What’s hard is getting to all the new restaurants! I guess if I dined out at least 2 or 3 times a week I could keep up 😆 Easier said than done with 2 kids at home and keeping up with all of their activities! Anyway, back to Brasserie du Parc! Brasserie du Parc is the newest restaurant from the owners of Etoile Cuisine et Bar that is located in Uptown Park. This Parisian inspired bistro occupies the first …

Favorite Things: Body Nutritive Serum and Tan Towels Self Tanner

Hi friends! How was your weekend? Is it a beautiful day where you are? It is here in Houston. My pool is calling my name. It looks so inviting, but unfortunately the water temp is still just a little too cool for my liking. These cool nights and mornings really cooled the water down. Though my kiddos did get in and swim yesterday afternoon. I’m pretty sure it won’t be long now before the water’s warm enough for me to put on my swimsuit and jump in and join them! Of course I am a little less than tan right now, though I do occasionally treat myself to organic spray tans from Spre Airbrushed Tanning here in Houston. While I like to practice safe sun exposure by using sunscreen I still like to get a little color! I don’t want to blind people with my “whiteness” and a tan always makes you look a little thinner. Who wouldn’t want that?! Which brings me to the first of “My Favorite Things” today. Just Natural’s Body Nutritive Serum …

Glorious Grapefruit: I’ll Make a Margarita Out of You!

What do you do when your friend gives you a bounty of grapefruit from her parent’s orchard? You make grapefruit margaritas of course! And this Spicy Grapefruit Margarita from Honest Cooking looks and sounds delish! Now I love a good margarita anytime. We live in Texas after all and it’s pretty much margarita weather year round. But I decided to juice these beauties and freeze the juice in ice cube trays to use to make margaritas pool side this summer! That way my summer cocktail will not only taste great, but be healthy too! Maybe I’ll even lose a little weight along the way 😉 Don’t judge! They are supposed to help you shed a few pounds!! Another way that I love my grapefruit is simply sprinkled with fresh rosemary and Tajin seasoning. Yummy! Grapefruit are crazy good for you! Here’s what Life Hack has to say about them: Grapefruit has surprising health benefits. The fruit grows in clusters similar to grapes, hence the name. It was first discovered in South America. It is a natural hybrid between orange and pomelo which …

Crostini With Sweet Pea Purée and Crispy Pancetta: Perfect For Easter Brunch

Not too long ago I took a cooking class at Sur La Table with some of my fave girlfriends. It was so much fun! A great way to spend an afternoon or evening with your friends… We definitely shared lots of laughs! And, obviously, you get to try some fabulous new recipes that you can impress your family and friends with later 😉 While we prepared several things, my favorite was the Crostini with Sweet Pea Puree and Pancetta. This bright green pea puree on grilled rustic bread bursts with spring flavor. I love how the salty pancetta paired with the sweetness of the peas. When in season, fresh shelled peas are recommended for the freshest flavor, but frozen peas make a delicious spread as well. These would make a perfect accompaniment to a summer day soiree, an evening dinner party, or really just anytime. If you are gluten sensitive you can make these with gluten free bread. I loved these! I hope you will too! Here’s what you’ll need: 2 cups fresh peas, or frozen and thawed …

THE Spring Wreath: A Ridiculously Easy DIY

Originally posted on A Color Pop Life:
Hello Friend!  Okay … you may be thinking, “Bridge, you mistakenly capitalized THE in the blog post title”, I’ll have to openly disappoint you.  I meant to do that!  Why?  Because now that I have made this wreath … on a whim I will add … it is my quintessential Spring wreath that will now be coming out every year as the flowers are showing signs of poppin’. As much as I am loving the Spring flowers peeking through landscapes now in Houston (although in full disclosure, I’m about over all of the yellow pollen gracing my constantly, fresh clean car … not to mention the sneeze fits it is giving me every single day), I’ve been feeling that je ne sais quoi is missing to show my little white cottage (a.k.a. my house) is happy for Mother Spring.  There has been a small little nod in the back of mind for a few weeks now, especially every time I pull into my driveway, and I feel like something…

How To Make Your Own Ripped Jeans

Who loves the ripped jeans look? I do! It seems like for the most part they are always in style too! Ripped jeans aren’t a new trend—not even close. The distressed style has fallen in and out of fashion favor since the 1980s, but it seems that in the last year or so, they’re more popular than ever. Now I know not that ripped jeans are not appropriate everyday, everywhere, but on many days they are! Days when you are out running errands, going to the movies with your main squeeze, or when you are just hanging with your gal pals, to name a few. But, don’t despair, you CAN give your ripped jeans a polished look with a great top and fabulous accessories giving you more opportunities to wear them! Of course you can buy ripped jeans just about anywhere that sells jeans and most likely for a hefty price. But how fun would it be to make your own, one of a kind, custom pair? Ripped just where you want it! Do you like two gaping …

Home Inspiration: Fashion Designer Jenni Kayne’s 1980s Haven in Beverly Hills

As I’ve scoured Houzz and Pinterest day dreaming about my own home remodel I have realized that I have saved multiple rooms from fashion designer Jenni Kayne’s Beverly Hills home . It’s absolutely gorgeous in my opinion. It’s the kind of home that says, “come in, stay a while, and relax… I absolutely love the mix of natural wood and stone with the organic, textural elements. It is all at once intimate and inviting while exuding a chic and refined vibe.  My kinda place! “The rooms have real depth, but there’s nothing fussy about them.” And, I love the subtle, not overwhelming, pops of color lightly dispersed throughout the various rooms. So, while I continue to daydream and peruse home designs for my own home remodel, I will definitely keep this stunning home in my mind as an inspiration. To see more of this gorgeous home and get more insight about the design you can head over to Architectural Digest or Savvy Home. If you could change your home’s style, what would the style be? …
